This is the last Override content drop
v42.40 went live 15 October 2026. Epic’s notes call it the final Battle Royale update of Chapter 7 Season 4. Fortnitemares and the Override Battle Pass both still read through 1 November 2026, Eastern Time. There is no published hour. Treat the evening of 31 October as the practical deadline if you are in US time zones, and check the in-game Passes tab the day of.

Loot Hacks this week (not floor loot)
Sprite Dust still buys a Loot Hack that rewrites your next chests, not the whole lobby’s floor spawns. v42.40’s board:

If you never open the Hack menu, you can play a whole session without seeing Gatekeeper or Finger Guns. That is expected. Floor pool is still Pump / 8-Bit / Sweeper / Heavy AR / Wood Stake / Dual Fiend Hunters / Mega Buster plus Fortnitemares extras like Bonerattler and Freddy’s Nightmare.
What left the island
- Midas’ Masterpiece — the 1-ammo Mythic pistol from Override launch. Headshot deletes are gone unless it comes back later.
- Witch Broom — Fortnitemares pocket mobility from v42.30, already pulled.
- Match Overrides: Super Shot, Big Boom, Action Hero, Healing Overdrive.
Already vaulted in Fortnitemares v42.30 (1 Oct) — still gone: Drum Gun, Ranger Assault Rifle, Tetris Rift.
Do not copy a loadout screenshot from early October that still has Drum + Midas. The loadout builder presets were rebuilt for this pool.
Sweeper Shotgun
Epic’s line is “slightly increased fire rate.” They did not publish a new shots-per-second sheet. We log it as a relative buff on weapon changes and keep the pre-patch encyclopedia rate until a datamine is honest. Confirm the in-game inspect screen if you are theory-crafting STK.
Sweeper is still the auto shotgun next to Pump and 8-Bit — not a replacement for first-shot Pump in boxes.
New Sprites
- Honey Sprite (Design-A-Sprite winner) — ranged hits can spawn bees at the impact point.
- One Wish Willow Sprite (Obsession collab) — steal equipped Sprites on elim and shove nearby players when you take damage. Removing it marks you on the map.
Sprite Mastery’s last page is unlocked: extra Quack Sprites and a Pixel Polli style. Quack feeds bonus Sprite XP to everything you are carrying. Finish that page this week; mastery does not roll into Season 5.
Like-for-Like weapon upgrades (easy to miss)
Walk over a higher rarity of the same gun you are holding and, if Settings → Game → Combat → Auto Pick Up Weapons is on, the client swaps you up automatically. That is the whole feature. It does not grab a different weapon off the floor. Turn it off if you hate surprise swaps in a box.
Match Overrides after the vaults
Consoles still exist. Four combat cartridges are gone. Fortnitemares ones (Spooky Sprinter, Berserk, Spooky Prop Hunt, More Health, Pumpkin Launching, Sugar Rush) can still roll. Playbook: Match Overrides explained. Competitive / tournament playlists often strip the mechanic — read the tile.

What we are not inventing
Epic has not named Chapter 7 Season 5 on the Battle Pass page or in the v42.40 notes. A giant pirate chest east of Sunken Shores is a landmark, not a leak we will treat as a POI guide. When the next season has a public name, the season hub gets a new review date — not a speculative island essay the week before.

Is Override over on 31 October or 1 November?
Epic’s Battle Pass page: 1 November 2026, Eastern Time, no hour. Community wikis often print 31 October because early-morning Eastern cutoffs land on the previous calendar day out west. Check the Passes tab.
Did the map change in v42.40?
No named-POI flip. Green Hill Zone, Reality’s Reign, and Stone Sanctum are still the new names. Live map.
Is Midas’ Masterpiece coming back?
Not in this patch. Vault means vault. We will un-hide it on the weapons page if Epic returns it — we will not keep it in the live loadout picker “just in case.”
