What “better FPS” actually means in Fortnite

  3. OS / GPU driver hygiene
  4. When hardware — not settings — is the bottleneck

Step 3 — Audio settings that help fights (not FPS, but clarity)

FPS guides ignore audio, then players “feel” worse because they cannot hear footsteps.

  • Mute music / lobby tracks if they distract

Step 4 — Windows and GPU checklist

Settings inside Fortnite cannot fix a thermal throttle.

Lobby and Creative FPS are not the same as late-game Chapter 7 endgame with builds, SMGs, and storm effects. Test changes in a real Ranked or pub endgame, or a stacked Creative fight map from the codes database.

Input feel beyond FPS

  • Raise polling rate on mouse (500–1000 Hz) if the CPU can handle it
  • Turn off mouse acceleration in Windows
  • Use fullscreen exclusive

Does lowering everything to Low always help?

No. Dropping 3D Resolution below 100% hurts target clarity more than it helps most players. Shadows and Effects are better first cuts.

Should I use DLSS / FSR in Fortnite?

If your build offers upscaling options in the current patch, test carefully — competitive players usually prefer native clarity in Performance Mode over soft upscaling. If an upscaler lets you hold a higher refresh rate *and* you still see enemies cleanly, keep it; otherwise skip it.

Is 240 FPS worth it on a 144 Hz monitor?
